TANK AND TANKLESS OPTIONS
North Star offers both tank and tankless options, available in natural gas/propane and electric varieties.

TANKLESS WATER HEATER
NATURAL GAS | PROPANE

Tankless water heaters offer endless hot water for all of your home needs. This means you can run a shower, the laundry, and the dishes all at the same time and never run out of hot water! Gone are the days when you're second to take a shower in the morning and the water runs cold. With a tankless water heater, you are no longer limited!

We install Navien tankless water heater products - the leaders in the market of condensing units. Their newly updated NPE-S2 (standard) & NPE-2A (advanced) models have even more advancements in this type of technology. With a 15 year warranty on the heat exchanger, these units are made to last!

NPE-2
Navien tankless water heaters offer efficiency ratings of up to a whopping 95% - saving you money in utilities in comparison to older models and storage tank style water heaters. These units only use gas when you are calling for hot water, in comparison to having to keep a tank heated at all times.

Not only are these tanks designed to save you in utilities, they are also designed with ease of use in mind. They feature the EZNav™ backlit control panel that reads both your temperature and flow rate. This control panel can also self diagnose if they were ever an issue, speeding up the troubleshooting process.
NPE-S2 STANDARD v npe-a2 ADVANCED MODELS
As with all amazing appliances, tankless water heaters do come with some shortfalls.
-
There is a slight delay in hot water reaching your tap - it needs to run for a few seconds.
-
The "cold water sandwich effect" in which on rare occasion, there may be a random short burst of cold water while using the hot water.
-
Minimum flow rate needed to produce hot water - tankless water heaters can struggle to work effectively when there is lower water pressure/flow rate.
These three issues are rare occurrences, and we do not think they should hinder your decision in going tankless. Navien's standard NPE-S2 model is a game changing unit (our best seller) and can supply you with the endless hot water you seek. However, if these issues do concern you, Navien does have another solution.
Navien offers the NPE-A2 (advanced) model. This advanced model offers a patented ComfortFlow® system that consists of a buffer tank, recirculation pump, and fine-tuned controls that work to eliminate the effects of these issues. The buffer tank holds 1 litre of hot water at all times so that even a call for a few drops of hot water is immediate. The recirculation pump helps to alleviate the effect of the "cold water sandwich effect" and can accommodate lower flow rates. This ComfortFlow® system makes the advanced model a cut above the rest!

Whether you choose to go with the standard or the advanced model, we are sure you will be thrilled with your purchase and you will never need to know the annoyance running out of hot water again!

storage TANKS
ELECTRIC | NATURAL GAS | PROPANE
We install Rheem’s Professional Classic Series of water heaters, including their standard electric and a variety of their natural gas/propane tanks. These tanks have an isolated tank design to reduce conductive heat less and increase efficiency. The elements are premium grade: consisting of a resistored copper upper element and a trademarked Lifeguard stainless steel lower element to prolong anode rod and tank life.

We carry electric tanks in the standard 40 gallon and 60 gallon sizes. As for the natural gas/propane tanks, we carry them in 40 gallon and 50 gallon sizes. The main difference between all of these tanks is how they are vented.

Power Vented tanks are vented directly outside through the wall. They have a blower fan on top that forces the exhaust outdoors through the vent.

Natural/Atmospheric Vented tanks are vented through a chimney directly out the roof. The exhaust naturally rises and exits the home through this vent.

Direct Vented tanks have a special type of vent that draws air from outside for combustion as opposed to the air from your home and the exhaust is vented back outdoors through a separate chamber.

Electric tanks are heated using electricity. Therefore there is no combustion/exhaust and no need for venting.
